Arriving at Hamble we knew this was a winnable game, but the ladies didn’t have on their mind the previous result before Christmas between the two sides and was fully focused on the task ahead.
Hamble started the brightest and had the better of the early exchanges taking advantage of our slow start and not settling down, this resulted in them grabbing an early lead on the twelth minute. After the goal Vics settled into the game and finally got a foot hold in the game when on the stroke of half time winger Abi Joyce found the net. A pre planned bowling celebration for the goal followed.
Half time see acting manager for the day Lisa Woodward reinforce the focus and gameplan set out pre match. With a couple of changes made, the second half started brightly and see Vics come out taking control of the game. The fifty seventh minute see a through ball latched onto by striker Ellie Witty, who turned and calmly dispatched a shot past the Hamble keeper seeing Vics take the lead. A passage of play then see the game mared, but a potential red card offence against winger Elly Griffin resulted in just a yellow and also Hambles manager being booked for dissent. However this did not deter Vics and spurred the team on to grab a third goal. With Hambles keeper in fine form, Vics had chance after chance until a perfect corner see Abi Joyce unmarked in the box perfectly sent the ball mid air past the keeper.
Calmly seeing out the remainder of the game in complete control, Vics took home a vital three points from the second place team in the league and we build upon our recent momentum and another major step forward for this team.
A special mention to all three debutants in this game. Kat Elliot, Amber James and Louise Barnett. Louise also got the player of the match award.
