Going into the game we knew we was in for a tough game. Although Rushmoor have suffered some heavy defeats this campaign, previous teams have acknowledged what a difficult and hard working team they are and we can now add to that testament. We may have run out 16-0 winners but that doesn’t tell the story or reflect the game. Rushmoor battled from the kick off right to the final whistle. They never gave up, never lost heart and looked dangerous every time they broke forward. Vics ladies started off very brightly, scoring our fastest goal ever, thirty six seconds into the game. A pass over the top of the defence by Ayisha see Ellie Witty one on one with the keeper and slotted the ball home. The game then settled for a little while becoming a midfield battle, but our wings where getting the better of Rushmoor and we hit our second on the sixth minute, with Abi Joyce tapping in a close range finish after a low range cross come into the box from Eloise. A flurry of four goals in a row then come from striker Ellie Witty on the eleventh, twentieth, tweny seventh and thirty seventh minute, two goal mouth tap ins, followed by a one on one with the keeper which was cooly slotted home before her final goal of the half, a cracking header from a well delivered corner kick. Abi Joyce then scored our seventh on the thirty sixth minute, with a candidate for goal of the season, hitting a looping thirty yard shot over the top of the keeper with her weaker left foot. We then introduced Fay Hodgkins for her first game since the season opener and she grabbed her first ever Vics ladies goal on the thirty ninth minute from close range, after a goal mouth scramble.
The second half see us come out dominating and trying to push on for more goals with Fay once again hitting the net with a perfectly placed side footed shot from fifteen yards on the fiftieth minute. Abi Joyce then hit the back of the net on the fifty first minute, picking up a stray ball twenty yards from goal and curling it around the goalkeeper. Fay completed her hat trick on the fifty eighth minute getting on the end of a spilled ball by the keeper. Unfortunately Rushmoor conceded a very unfortunate own goal on the sixty fifth minute. The seventy fifth minute see tricky winger Delphine weave her way into the box and was brought down, resulting in her stepping up and dispatching the penalty scoring her first goal this season. This then resulted in her getting her second four minutes later on the seventy fifth minute, latching onto a stray clearance and sticking home from fifteen yards. The reintroduction of Ellie Witty off the bench see her grab two more goals on the eighty first minute, and a one on one with the keeper on the eighty fifth minute.
A fantastic performance all in all from the ladies and a great day out even in trying conditions and a rapidly deteriorating pitch. Momentum continues to grow behind this team as we push towards the end of the season. A massive thank you to Rushmoor for their hospitality, professionalism and never die attitude. Also a big thank you to driver Madelyn, assitant Matt, linesman Scott and gk coach Steve for their hard work on the day.
